Few governorates have as many reasons to attract flatmates. Ariana borders the El Manar campus, hosts the El Ghazala technology park and its engineering schools, and lies a few minutes from Les Berges du Lac and Charguia, where many young graduates work. Add the Ennasr clinics, the call centres and end-of-studies internships, and you get demand that almost never stops. Flatsharing in Ariana answers a simple problem: a whole flat costs too much for a student or a first salary.
This page brings together every form of sharing: a room in a flat, a room with a family, a house or villa floor rented by several people. Listings are posted by private individuals, owners or current flatmates, whom you contact directly. Their number varies with the academic calendar, and supply is much richer in the south of the governorate than in the north.
Ennasr and central Ariana, where demand is strongest
Ariana Ville holds most of the rooms. Ennasr attracts those who want a recent building, a lift and cafés at the foot of the residence; the centre and the Menzah better suit tight budgets and those who rely on the metro to reach Tunis or El Manar. Nouvelle Ariana and Ariana Supérieure strike a balance between the two. The page for flatsharing in Ariana Ville covers these neighbourhoods in detail.
A single room in a flatshare in Ariana often costs between 300 and 550 DT a month depending on the neighbourhood, the furnishings and what the rent includes. Rooms shared between two have become rare, except near the centre, where a few students still accept this compromise to pay less. Listings specifying accommodation reserved for women or for men are common, especially with families; they save pointless viewings.
Soukra, Raoued and Ghazala: more space, longer journeys
In Soukra, the dominant formula is a room with a family, in a house in Borj Louzir or Ettaamir that a grown child has left. The rent often includes bills and the setting is quiet, but family life sets its own hours. You also find villa floors shared by three or four young professionals who work near the airport. Local listings are on the page for flatsharing in Soukra.
Raoued mainly interests El Ghazala students who want to avoid the morning traffic jams. Housing there is more recent and cheaper than in Ennasr, but public transport remains limited and in the evening, without a car, you depend on taxis. Cité Ettadhamen and El Mnihla have the lowest rents in the governorate, with a fabric of multi-storey houses where people tend to share among acquaintances, often through word of mouth.
The north of the governorate, almost no supply
Kalaat El Andalous and Sidi Thabet are rural delegations where flatsharing barely exists. A few rooms appear around the Sidi Thabet technology park or for seasonal farm workers, but supply is too thin to base a search on. If you work in the north, look instead in Raoued or Ariana Ville and factor in the journey, or go through homes for rent in Ariana for a small studio of your own.
Calendar and rules to settle before moving in
The season opens at the end of August and peaks until mid-October: rooms near the metro and El Ghazala then go within a few days. A second wave arrives in January and February with internships. Summer is the best time for a young employee: students free up rooms and owners are more willing to negotiate.
Before paying anything, ask who holds the tenancy agreement and whether the owner accepts several occupants. Put in writing your share of the rent, the deposit amount and the notice period for leaving. Split the STEG, SONEDE and internet bills from the first month, and bring each offer down to an all-inclusive monthly cost: a room advertised cheaper without bills can end up costing more than another with bills included. To see only shared flats, the page for shared flats in Ariana does the sorting.
