Flatshare in Sousse

1 listing found

Flatsharing in Sousse serves three groups who are not looking for the same thing. Students, by far the most numerous, want a cheap room near their faculty or a bus line. Junior doctors and allied health staff, on placement for a few months, want to be within walking distance of the hospital. Seasonal hotel workers, for their part, look for a roof from May to October near the tourist zone. Each has its neighbourhood, and the map of the governorate reads quite well through them.

This page brings together rooms in family homes, shared house floors and shared apartments across the whole governorate, published mostly by private owners. Their number varies a lot from week to week and closely follows the academic calendar. You contact the advertiser directly, which lets you ask your questions before making the trip.

Students: from central Sousse to Chott Mariem

The institutions of the University of Sousse are spread across the city centre, Sousse Jawhara, Sahloul and Hammam Sousse, with an agronomy campus in Chott Mariem. In the centre and around the medina, a room in a family home remains the cheapest option: a furnished room in a family house, water and electricity often included. The page on flatsharing in Sousse Médina details these older neighbourhoods and the shared floor typical of Khezama.

In Chott Mariem and Akouda, the supply is thinner and more seasonal: summer villas whose owners rent to students from September to June, then take the property back for the summer. This compromise works if you go home to your parents in July; otherwise, you need to know before signing.

Junior doctors and carers: Sahloul and Sousse Jawhara

Hospital placements create steady demand around the two large hospitals, Sahloul and Farhat Hached. Junior doctors often team up to find a furnished 2 or 3 bedroom flat in a nearby residence, for the length of a semester. These shared apartments cost more than a room in a house, but they offer a lift, parking and a door of your own. The detail of this option is on the page of shared apartments in Sousse.

Here, the length of stay matters. An owner who rents by the room prefers a commitment for the academic year, whereas a placement sometimes lasts three or six months. Say so from the first call: some accept, others do not.

Seasonal workers: Hammam Sousse and Kantaoui

In spring, the hotels and restaurants of the tourist zone hire, and part of that staff comes from other regions. They look for a room or a place in an apartment in Hammam Sousse, within cycling or shared taxi distance of work. It is also the period when supply dries up, because owners on the coast keep their properties for summer visitors. It is better to search from March or April, and to accept moving a little further out towards Akouda or Sousse Riadh.

Seasonal workers should have the end date stated from the outset. An owner who rents from May to October knows what to expect; one who learns in August that the tenant wants to stay for the winter may refuse or raise the price. A written agreement, even a simple one, avoids these misunderstandings. Some employers also house their staff: ask before searching on your own. Those hesitating between Sousse and Monastir, where the hotel trade also recruits, can compare on the page on flatsharing in Tunisia.

Prices, deposit and house rules

A room in a family home often rents for between 200 and 400 DT a month depending on the neighbourhood and what is included; a share of an apartment in a residence costs more. The norm remains one month's deposit and one month in advance, not several months paid before the viewing.

Ask what the rent covers, how many people share the bathroom and the kitchen, whether the room locks and whether the owner agrees to provide a proof of address. For a flatshare between friends, have everyone sign the lease, or at least set out in writing who pays what. If you finally prefer a studio of your own, the homes for rent in the Sousse governorate give the prices of a small self contained home.
